Longevity, protein and fiber or all three at one…

According to 60 minutes that aired yesterday, March 22nd, longevity is a concern for many people; especially now that the baby boomers are reaching a certain age. At a certain age Dementia and or Alzheimer’s is a concern. Living a healthy life without disease would be ideal; however, it takes commitment to eating right, exercising and living a stress free balanced life. While the scientists are trying to figure out a medicine to help longevity, we can try to prevent the disease of dementia earlier on by providing the healthy eating part. ““Alzheimer’s disease may be more aptly termed a younger and middle=aged person’s disease.”” p 95 Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s book: “Keep Sharp”. “Plenty of studies have also shown that people who adhere to a Mediterranean-style diet enjoy greater brain volume as they age compared to their counterparts who don’t eat that way.” p 161 Dr. Gupta, “Keep Sharp”.

“It should come as no surprise that the typical Western diet-high in salt, sugar, excess calories, and saturated fats-is not brain-friendly. As the research concludes, a plant-based diet that is rich in a variety of fresh whole fruits and vegetables, particularily berries and green leafy vegetable, is associated with better brain health.” p 167 Dr. Gupta.

In other words, eating from the Cantine Kat’s menu = healthy eating. Locally sourced, conscientiously prepared with simple familiar ingredients, made in a clean germaphobe environment, and vegetarian- pescatarian tasty comfort foods that won’t cost you your health.

For all of you worried about your protein consumption, don’t. That is the first concern on everyone’s mind when people ask me about my choice to becoming a vegetarian- pescatarian. There are plenty of healthier choices to obtain our protein besides live and or beef. Some alternatives of plant based are so close to their meat based counterparts that it is hard to distinguish, mainly because of the spices we use to enhance the meal. I challenge you to try our lasagna, many people actually enjoy it more. Let’s not mention the shitake mushroom general tao we make!

Fiber is the second most concern on people’s minds lately and with good reason. Not only to have a more comfortable day, but to keep your gut healthy. Also, fiber intake has long been shown to help prevent depression, hypertension, and dementia through a variety of biological pathways.” Plant based meals provide plenty of fiber! So try Cantine Kat’s menu, we sincerely care about your health
