FOMO on FOMM: Fear of missing out on fear of missing meat!

I understand the fear of missing out; especially when you are not in a majority group. Not everyone gives up poultry and meat, but you don’t have to, you can just eat less of it to get healthier. When my son first told me he was going to follow a pescatarian diet, I was upset. I thought it was a phase or he was just joking. Then I understood why, when I viewed the documentary “What the Health” by Netflix that he encouraged me to watch. Three points that stuck with me to convince me to join my son’s choice of eating. It is now going to be six years that the three of us are pescatarian ( my mom included).

  1. No more meds needed. As I have been taking care of my mother and hearing her complain everyday about her excruciating back pain; I decided to try avoid preparing meat hoping that would help her situation. Not only is the pain gone, she takes no medication for her body health what so ever.

  2. Sustainability and climate change. As much as the government encourages meat as a necessity in our food groups to support farmers, the consequences in our over consumption is hindering our environment. Damaging our environment with methane gas produced by cows. “Methane from cattle is shorter lived than carbon dioxide but 28 times more potent in warming the atmosphere…” University of California, Davis '‘Cows and climate change” by Amy Quinton, June 27, 2019. The crowding of chickens for greater production causes bruising and potential diseases from chickens; besides the horrible methods of slaughterhouses. '“Animals Australia” You Tube November 26, 2020. Pigs are mistreated. And apparently to produce a better bacon they snip their tails. Information revealed on a documentary from the National CBC News, August 29,2016

  3. Doctor’s are here to cure what you have. The last convincing point was how the doctors are doing their best in helping us with our health conditions; however, if you were healthy we would not have to wait to be seen by them. Especially when we have a hospital health crisis in Quebec. Doctors are all specialists in their field, but unless they are nutritionalists; they don’t ever discuss your eating habits. Their job is to examine us, find out whats wrong; then prescribe medications, when needed. I have learnt that eating healthy prevents health problems.

Hoping that you no longer have the fear of missing out on missing meat. Try a different diet or start slow with Cantine Kat’s menu.
